Standing for freedom at the Values Voter Summit.

Over the weekend, Gov. Perry spoke to the Values Voter Summit, receiving a warm welcome and several enthusiastic standing ovations from the 1,700 conservatives in attendance. Watch a portion of the speech here:

I don’t have to tell you that our fellow Americans are having a tough go of things in this current economy and that these problems aren’t going to fix themselves, but I’m at a loss to explain how Washington can justify the approach they’re taking.

If anyone here is starting a business, thinking you can borrow your way out of debt and spend your way to prosperity, you might want to consider taking an Economics 101 class. I’d suggest the same class for the folks in Washington and, while we’re at it, a refresher course on the U.S. Constitution.

We know that the route to success is lower taxes, smaller government and freedom for every individual. I know that because I’ve seen that approach work in Texas. Just three months ago, we wrapped up our biannual legislative session with a balanced budget, a tax cut for 40,000 small businesses and a Rainy Day Fund that is projected to grow to $9 billion by 2011. Compare that to California’s $24 billion deficit and a federal deficit approaching $1.6 trillion.

REALTORS endorse Gov. Rick Perry for re-election!

Yet another huge endorsement for Governor Perry's re-election today: the Texas Association of Realtors' 160-member Board of Directors unanimously voted to endorse Governor Perry for re-election.

Their endorsement is hugely significant, because TAR is an active group of more than 90,000 highly influential Texans whose livelihood depends on the vitality and success of the Texas economy. The Realtors' endorsement is yet another in a series of major endorsements from groups with a direct interest in seeing Texas succeed.

While Texas is by no means immune to the national downturn, Texas has weathered the recession far better than the country as a whole, and all 5 healthiest housing markets in the nation for 2009 are in Texas, according to Builder Magazine.

There are plenty of reasons the Realtors chose Rick Perry for 2010. If you still haven't seen the must-watch Texaplex video, take a few minutes to check out why Texas still has reason for optimism:

Governor Rick Perry Sending Highly Skilled Ranger Recon Teams To Protect Texas Border.

Protecting the Texas border has been an ongoing priority for Governor Perry throughout his tenure. The Governor's border security initiatives, such as Operation: Border Star, have yielded real, positive results where implemented; crime and violence are down by 65% in areas where the State of Texas has committed resources.

MyFox Houston reports on the latest Texas-led border security efforts, Ranger Recon teams:

HOUSTON - It may be a federal issue, but Texas Governor Rick Perry is taking it into his own hands.

On Thursday, Perry, along with the director of the Department of Public Safety, the senior captain of the Texas Rangers and a representative from the Texas Army National Guard announced a new joint mission aimed at bolstering security along the Texas/Mexico border.

Operation Ranger ReCon will send at least 200 highly-trained soldiers and airmen from the Guard to rural areas along the Rio Grande valley where they will join "strike teams," comprised of state police under the direction of the Texas Rangers.

Although the federal government appears committed to inaction, Texas continues to lead.

Peggy Venable's Endorsement.

The momentum in this race is undeniable: Governor Perry has been accumulating more great endorsements every single day from a broad variety of groups and individuals representing many thousands of Texans.

This week, taxpayer watchdog Peggy Venable gave her official endorsement to Governor Rick Perry's 2010 re-election campaign.

This week, Peggy Venable also wrote a great article about successful tort reform in Texas:

Earth to Obama: Texas enacted malpractice reform years ago. The President would benefit from a phone call to Texas Gov. Rick Perry.

Texas passed significant tort reform in 1995 and more reforms have been enacted since then. A study released in 2008 outlined the benefits stating that perhaps the most visible economic impact of lawsuit reforms are the benefits experienced by Texans who have better access to high-quality healthcare. Doctors and hospitals are using their liability insurance savings to expand services and initiate innovative programs; those savings have allowed Texas hospitals to expand charity care by 24%.

In the study titled “The Texas Turnaround,” The Perryman Group measured the incremental gains from tort reform and found that the total impact of tort reforms implemented since 1995 includes gains of $112.5 billion in spending each year as well as almost 499,900 jobs in the state. The fiscal stimulus to the State from judicial reforms is almost $2.6 billion per year increase in state revenue.

Texas reforms limited non-economic damages in medical malpractice litigation, which alone lead to gains of $55.3 billion in spending per year and more than 223,000 jobs. In addition, these impacts are responsible for approximately 430,000 individuals having health insurance than would otherwise, and there has been an increase in the number of doctors, particularly in regions which have been facing severe shortages. In the Houston-Sugarland-Baytown area, the impact of tort reform has been astounding.

Forbes lists Texas cities among the best for earning a living, and among the least stressful in the country.

Forbes has released a couple of brand new "best of" lists this week, and yet again Texas scores well in their rankings.

First, Texas cities performed well in Forbes' 2009 ranking of Best Cities To Earn A Living rankings: Dallas was #1, Houston was #2, and Austin was #4. Forbes adds:

For the exasperated job-seeker to whom employment opportunities seem bleaker than ever, salvation may lie in the Lone Star State. Texas, home to dozens of energy heavyweights and nearly as many innovative small companies, has three of the best cities to earn a living: Dallas, Houston and Austin.

When taking into account the cost of living, strength of industry, economists' predictions for the future state of employment and, of course, salary, these are some of the best U.S. cities in which to take home a paycheck.

Forbes also studied the most and least stressful cities in America, based on things such as the median drop in home prices, the unemployment rate, the cost of living, and air quality. Based on those criteria, Austin-Round Rock was the least stressful city, and San Antonio was the second-least stressful. Dallas-Ft. Worth-Arlington was among the 5 least stressful cities, and Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown was the 9th least stressful city.

While some cynics incessantly run down the Texas success story for cheap political gain, Governor Perry is proud of Texas and proud of his conservative record. For more great facts about success in Texas, check out

Listen to Governor Perry speak out on this issue, here:

The Texas Alliance for Life explained that "Rick Perry is without question the best person for the job," and said in its own press release:

Pojman points out Gov. Perry has consistently and passionately supported laws protecting unborn babies and their mothers. Perry supported the Women's Right to Know Act (2003), the Prenatal Protection Act (2003), the parental consent law (2005), and funding for alternatives to abortions (2007, 2009).

In 2003, U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, who recently announced her candidacy for governor, showed her support for legalized abortion by voting for a resolution that stated, "It is the sense of the Senate that the decision of the Supreme Court in Roe v. Wade was appropriate and secures an important constitutional right; and such decision should not be overturned." (See Senate Roll Call No. 48, 108th
Congress, 1st Session.)
