Last week was busy here in Texas and beyond. As you saw in the news and maybe even firsthand, we undertook a massive effort to prepare our state for the approach of Hurricane Gustav and help out our neighbors in Louisiana.

More than 280,000 folks got out of east Texas on their own and our statewide emergency management team helped evacuate another 10,000 who didn't have the means.
It was a remarkable effort that showed the world how Texas handles trouble and looks out for her neighbors. (It was also a great test for our new state Web site, www.governor.state.tx.us. Be sure to check it out.)
The week was also highlighted by our Texas delegation's journey to Minnesota where they represented the Lone Star state with pride and class. I thought it best to stay in Texas and mind the store as Gustav approached, but I was able to keep in touch with the delegation with calls to their breakfast meetings and through word from the First Lady during her visit to the Twin Cities. To see my messages to the convention, visit one of the video links below.
I hope you're as energized as I am by the vitality of our party's presidential ticket and will continue to working to ensure we keep Republican leadership in place--it's the greatest hope for our country and our state.

Nature's Fury Contained Through Timely Action
Gustav was the MC (Master of Ceremony), introducing Ike.
The former threatened the GOP convention whereas the latter took aim at the Gulf Coast, and surged through ten other states, laden with destructions and minimal deaths, due to the timely action by local, state, and federal officials.
The aftermath of hurricane Ike...devastating!
Seven Days, No Lights, No Phones, No Internet; and for a minute, life was reversed to the early 50's - amazing.
Nature's fury came announced; and, was contained through timely action - Thanks to Governor Rick Perry, and his team of dedicated citizens who came to the rescue of Texans in times of need. God bless all the first responders, the Homeland Security Boss, the Hon. Judges, the untiring Mayors of Galveston and Houston, and all who made life promising when it looked bleak. You're appreciated; and once again, here's a big "Thank You."
