AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry today received the endorsement of the Associated Security Services and Investigators of the State of Texas (ASSIST) for re-election.

“Gov. Perry’s work to make Texans safer through disaster and emergency response planning has been outstanding and ASSIST is proud to endorse Gov. Perry in his bid for re-election.” said Bob Burt, State President of ASSIST. “Gov. Perry was among the first to recognize the previously untapped partnership between public and private law enforcement, and his support of the Law Enforcement and Private Security (LEAPS) program has helped to add thousands of eyes and ears in the effort to keep Texans safe at no additional cost to taxpayers. The successful utilization of both private and public security professionals places Texas far above the rest.”

ASSIST is a non-profit organization comprised of private professional security companies across the state and the largest organization representing private security in Texas. There are more than 100,000 private security officers in Texas.

“I am proud of the sacrifices members of ASSIST have made over the years, working alongside public sector law enforcement to fortify our crime fighting and emergency management efforts, and I am honored to accept their endorsement,” said Gov. Perry. “Their role in mobilizing resources and assistance in the face of natural disasters has been invaluable in the effort to keep Texans safe and out of harm’s way. I will continue to ensure our protectors, both in the public and private sector, have the tools they need to keep our people safe and our communities secure.”
