Statement by Gov. Rick Perry Welcoming Rep. Chuck Hopson into the Republican Party:

“Rep. Hopson’s switch to the Republican Party is a decision I deeply respect and one I know he did not come to lightly. I am excited and proud to welcome Chuck into the party, and look forward to working with him and fellow Republicans to address the issues most vital to keeping Texas strong and full of opportunity, especially during these challenging economic times.

“Chuck’s announcement today, which comes on the heels of the recent party switch of seven Hardin County officials, is further confirmation that the conservative values of personal liberty, fiscal restraint and limited government embraced by the Republican Party are the pillars of governance that will keep our state on the path of prosperity well into the future.”
