AUSTIN – The Texas Civil Justice League Political Action Committee (TCJL PAC), the state’s original legal reform coalition, today endorsed Gov. Rick Perry for re-election in 2010.
“Since taking office, Gov. Perry has made business liability and legal reform the centerpiece of his economic policy,” said Red McCombs, San Antonio businessman and TCJL PAC chairman. “Under his leadership, Texas is not only weathering the economic crisis better than any other state in the nation, it is poised to take off when the recovery hits full stride. The Texas Civil Justice League PAC is proud to endorse Gov. Perry and looks forward to working with him for the next four years.”
Texas Civil Justice League (TCJL) is the state’s oldest legal reform organization and the only statewide legal reform coalition governed by a board of directors composed of business leaders and association representatives. TCJL was originally founded to enact recommendations issued by the 1987 House/Senate Joint Committee on Liability Insurance and Tort Law Procedure. It has since become a national leader in the lawsuit reform movement, assisting in the organization of similar state groups in Georgia, Illinois, New York, and Pennsylvania.
In conjunction with TCJL’s efforts in the legislative arena, the TCJL PAC was established in 1988 to support legislative, judicial and statewide candidates, regardless of party affiliation, who are committed to creating and maintaining a fair and efficient Texas civil justice system.
“TCJL was instrumental in our state’s efforts to pass the sweeping tort reform legislation in 2003 that has since transformed our state’s legal climate for the better and created a successful blueprint for the rest of the nation to follow,” said Gov. Perry. “Texans are fortunate to have organizations like TCJL looking out for their interests through ongoing efforts to maintain a fair legal climate and mitigate frivolous lawsuits. I’m thankful to have their support in this upcoming election.”
The TCJL PAC joins the Texas Municipal Police Association, Texas Chemical Council, Texas Society of Professional Engineers, RNC Committeewoman Cathie Adams, Texas Right to Life, Houston Realty Business Coalition, Texas Apartment Association, Texas Republican County Chairman Association President Linda Rogers, Heidi Group Founder Carol Everett, Texas Alliance for Life, Texas Department of Public Safety Officers Association PAC, Texas Home School Coalition PAC, Texans for Life President Kyleen Wright, Conservative Republicans of Texas President Dr. Steve Hotze, Free Market Foundation President Kelly Shackelford, Texas Chiropractic Association, Americans for Prosperity State Director Peggy Venable, the Texas State Association of Fire Fighters and Texas Association of Realtors in their endorsement of Gov. Perry.
