AUSTIN - Gov. Perry has received the endorsement of Texas Right to Life for re-election in 2010.
“Since even before he became Governor, Rick Perry has led efforts to protect the sanctity of innocent human life,” said President of Texas Right to Life Dr. Joseph Graham. “Not only does Governor Perry defend the unborn, he has worked to stop destructive research on human embryos and other biotech assaults on human life.”
“Governor Perry has appointed judges who adhere to a constructionist style of jurisprudence, yielding one of the most pro-life judiciaries in the nation. Texas Right to Life proudly endorses and fully supports pro-life incumbent Rick Perry for another term as Texas governor,” said Graham.
Gov. Perry has fought for and signed numerous bills that protect life and promote alternatives to abortion, including:
-Woman's Right to Know Act (House Bill 15, 2003): ensures that pregnant women who seek to legally terminate a pregnancy are provided with accurate and timely information relating to their own health and safety, as well as alternatives to the abortion procedure.
-Prenatal Protection Act (Senate Bill 319, 2003): provides civil and criminal penalties for death or injury to an unborn child.
-Parental Consent legislation (amendment to Senate Bill 419, 2005): requires that parents give consent before their minor daughters can have an abortion.
